IAMRA eNews May 2024

Kia ora koutou, rau rangatira mā – Greetings leaders and colleagues,

Welcome to the May edition of the IAMRA newsletter!

I’m pleased to share further details of our recent Board of Directors review of our strategic plan. We have settled on three strategic themes to guide our work for the coming years:

  • Assuring a safe and competent globally mobile workforce through our new information exchange platform.
  • Regulatory thought leadership focusing on the key themes of cultural safety, health equality and artificial intelligence.
  • Increased focus on member support via the creation of a new committee to improve our member offer and grow our membership.

We’re pushing ahead with a great programme of work to help meet our objectives in these areas as well as progressing our work with the World Health Organization following the signing of our MOU earlier this year.

See below for information on how to register for the IAMRA Symposium in September 2024 in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, as well as an update on our series of interactive webinars which provide the opportunity to learn how medical regulators around the world are tackling the challenges that we all face.

We hope you find the newsletter useful. Please get in touch to share any medical regulatory updates for forthcoming editions.

He mihi mahana - Warm greetings and wishes

Joan Simeon

Chair, IAMRA

Symposium 2024 - Register Now!

Register now for our one-day, in-person IAMRA Symposium on Friday 20 September 2024. The symposium will be held immediately after, and at the same location as, the Council on Licensure, Enforcement and Regulation’s Annual Educational Conference in Baltimore, Maryland, USA.

The symposium will provide a timely opportunity to come together as a global medical regulatory community to explore how AI is fundamentally changing clinical practice across the globe and to better understand the risks and opportunities that AI poses to us as medical regulators.

Our latest webinar took place earlier this month with a focus on the regulator’s role in providing a more compassionate and supportive approach to complainants in sexual misconduct matters.

A special thank you to our guest speakers who provided examples of the great work being done in this area in both the US and Australia:

  • Kyle Karinen, Executive Director, Washington Medical Commission, and
  • Belinda Lines, Lead Social Worker, and Jacinta Evans, Senior Research and Evaluation Officer, Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra).

If you missed the webinar, the full recording can be accessedhere.

Our next webinar will take place in July, details to come. Watch this space for further details!
